***NOW INCLUDES THE FUEL ECONOMY FIGURES SINCE THE ENGINE UPGRADE***

These latest figures since the swap to the DOHC 16-valve engine have surprised me immensely, being around 38-40mpg! Almost as good as the old engine and with over 35bhp more!

Due to the recent concern over rapidly increasing petrol prices here in the UK, I thought I'd add this section to the website to show just how economical (or maybe uneconomical) the 205 XS is by using my own car as an example. The car has done 148,000 miles now and the measurements were taken from the last 45k of driving. In that period I have been doing driving in London including many traffic jams, some hard and fast driving, some economical driving on motorways (at around 60mph) and some mixtures of styles and conditions.

It was rolling road tuned February 2000 and the Ecotek fuel-saving device was fitted in the beginning of June 2000 (not applicable to the new engine).

The results are in the form of an Excel spreadsheet (please click below). I may tabulate them here at a later date.

Below are the charts showing the trend in fuel economy in the months since I bought the car.

The following charts are following my accident in December 2002.
